Grand Bend

In 1971 the first medical centre building was built in Grand Bend on Gill Road.  A small number of Doctors, RNs and Medical Office Assistants took care of village residents and visitors in that office until the changeover to the Community Health Centre model in August of 1999.

The centre brought on the addition of a physiotherapist, health promoter, social worker, dietitian and a diabetes education program. It was soon evident that we had outgrown our space and our new building at 69 Main Street East was opened in the spring of 2004.

Today the Grand Bend Area Community Health Centre is a bustling place where clients can access their Primary Health Care needs ~ to help cure what ails them ~ or Health Promotion to prevent illness from occurring.

Many of the doctors who work at the Grand Bend Area Community Health Centre have been an integral part of the health of Hensall residents for many, many years. In the last decade, with the establishment of the Community Health Centre, we have been able to add a Nurse Practitioner, more doctors and Allied Health such as the Diabetes Education Program, Social Worker, Dietitians, Community Programs and Physiotherapy.

In April 2010 the newly renovated primary care space was opened with funding from the Erie St. Clair LHIN.  The increased amount of space gives us the ability to incorporate teaching into the primary care activities in Hensall.  Our original space is now being utilized by ou Allied Health programs.

In 2006, the Aging At Home program was created because the need for in home assessment of our aging population increased, so an occupational therapist was hired.

In 2010, the Local Health Integration networks provided the funds for a new program called the COPD Rapid Response Team now called the Better Breathing Team. Because the catchment area that was to be covered was so expansive, they decided to pick a centrally located office and Thedford was on the short list.

In 2012, the Aging At Home program was enhanced to include a nurse to run the Ontario Telemedicine Network program and the installation of a physio gym to help COPD clients.

In 2013 funds were allocated to hire a social worker to work in Thedford.

In 2016 the Erie St. Clair LHIN decided to close the Thedford site and move all services to the main site in Grand Bend.
