On June 26 2020, Dr. Debra McNaughton and Dr. Peter Englert retired from the GBACHC. Current Board Chair, Dave Crockett, and Past Board Chair (1999-2004), Don Tedford, shared these words at the virtual celebration.
From Dave Crockett: “It is a bittersweet time. We will miss Dr. McNaughton and Dr. Englert! They have jointly contributed over 70 years to this community, created the community health centre with Dr. O’Connor and members of the community and leave shoes that are not possible to fill.”
From Don Tedford: “Of course, none of this (the Grand Bend Area Community Health Centre) would be possible without the original three doctors who proposed the possibility of creating a community health centre – three esteemed and dedicated physicians who dedicated the majority of their working years to maintaining the health and wellbeing of the Grand Bend community.
On a personal note, Beth and I have known these individuals for 30 years and have appreciated their care. Dr. Debra McNaughton and Dr. Peter Englert were both involved from the outset with their support and advice and their unconditional backing, which made all of this possible. The community of Grand Bend and area should be ever grateful for their presence. We wish them both a long and healthy retirement.”
Chief Executive Officer, Cate Melito, extended retirement best wishes to Dr. McNaughton and Dr. Englert and shared some good news about new physicians at the GBACHC. Melito said, “At this time of two physicians retiring, we are pleased to have new physicians join the team who know the area having grown up here and who want to practice here.” Read more about our new physicians below.
The transition of care to the new physicians is occurring between June and August 2020. The GBACHC continues to have a full patient roster and is therefore not accepting new patients at this time.
We are delighted to introduce the two new physicians who are assuming the care of the Dr. Englert’s and Dr. McNaughton’s patients.
Dr. Wiley began a fulltime practice at the GBACHC on May 19, 2020. Dr. Erin Wiley grew up on a small farm near Bayfield. She completed medical school at Western University, achieved her family medicine residency at the University of Ottawa and holds a master’s degree in health promotion from Western University. Dr Wiley enjoys general practice and has special interests in the elderly population, dermatology, and women’s health. Dr. Wiley stated, “I am looking forward to returning to my home community and joining the team at the Grand Bend Area Community Health Centre.”
Dr. Englert’s patients will be contacted for their consent to transfer their care to Dr. Erin Wiley.
Dr. Van Osch grew up on a farm outside of Mt. Carmel and spent many summers on the beach in Grand Bend. He completed his undergrad and medical school at Western University. He completed his residency in Victoria, BC in 2016, and has since locumed at the GBACHC and various locations across BC. Dr. Van Osch expressed, “It has been a dream of mine since I was young to be a doctor in my own home community.” Dr. Van Osch will be assuming the care of Dr. McNaughton’s patients when he arrives in June 2021, in the meantime, Dr. McNaughton’s patients will continue to be served by their Nurse Practitioners and by Dr. Sakshi Babbar.
