Cardiac Rehabilitation

The cardiac rehabilitation program assists patients/clients in developing a heart-healthy lifestyle. The program is offered to those with a diagnosed heart or valve condition and to those recovering from a cardiac event or surgery. Patients/clients who are at high risk of developing heart disease also qualify for the program.

The cardiac rehabilitation team consists of a nurse practitioner, registered kinesiologist, social worker and a registered dietician. Each practitioner provides an individualized plan to  maximize overall quality of life and to minimize cardiac risk factors and symptoms by providing education for self-management.

There is no cost to patients/clients to participate in the program.  Referrals must be made by a physician.

The Kinesiologist works with the Physiotherapist to develop individual exercise programs for patients. The Kinesiologist also runs exercise classes designed for patients in wheelchairs, using walking aids such as walkers and canes, on oxygen and in need of some individual coaching. The Kinesiologist is an important member of the Better Breathing Team.

Referrals for a physiotherapist and/or an occupational therapist can be made through your physician, nurse practitioner, other health care provider, caregiver, or yourself.
