Help Our Community Stay Strong and Active
Do you have a background in health care, fitness, physical education, kinesiology or recreation—and a passion for helping people stay active and independent?
The Grand Bend Area Community Health Centre is seeking a volunteer fitness instructor to lead a weekly daytime functional fitness class for adults with low physical fitness levels due to age, chronic health conditions, or other limitations.
This is not a high-intensity workout class. The program is designed to help participants safely build the strength, balance, mobility and confidence they need for everyday activities—and to support them in remaining active and independent in their community.
We would love to hear from:
- retired or former physical education teachers;
- retired or practising health-care professionals with an interest in physical activity;
- fitness instructors, personal trainers or recreation professionals;
- kinesiology or related professionals; or
- others with appropriate experience who enjoy working with older adults and people living with chronic conditions.
The commitment:
The class would run once a week during the daytime, from September through May.
Training may be available through the Seniors Fitness Instructor program at Western University’s Canadian Centre for Activity and Aging, providing additional preparation for working safely and effectively with older adults.
This could be a wonderful opportunity for a retired professional or experienced community member who misses teaching, coaching or working directly with people and would like to use those skills in a meaningful way.
You won’t simply be leading an exercise class—you’ll be helping people maintain their mobility, confidence, independence and quality of life.
